Thousands of cyclists racing in Sunday's (4/21/2002) MS-150 ride from Houston to Austin faced an evacuation at the finish line at the University of Texas.

A hazardous chemicals leak and building fire forced thousands to evacuate from the cyclist rest and shower area.

Investigators aren't sure how the Hydrogen Sulfide leak in the press building near the finish line stared. Crews were able to stop the leak, put out the fire and let people back into the area within a couple of hours.

Sunday's fire is under investigation by UT fire marshall.
