Posted in Metropolitan Digest on March 08, 2002

A 15-year-old boy and a teacher were treated for burns Thursday after a fire erupted at a Northland high school.

The fire started at 1:17 p.m. in the industrial arts classroom of Oak Park High School, 825 N.E. 79th Terrace in Kansas City, North. Students and faculty evacuated the building after a fire alarm sounded. Classes resumed about 15 minutes later.

Kansas City firefighters and school officials are investigating the fire, which began in a lacquer room. The cause has not been determined.

A student and industrial arts teacher Bobby Bryant were treated at North Kansas City Hospital for burns on their hands. The incident caused minor damage, a North Kansas City School District spokeswoman said.
